State passes bill requiring presidential candidates to release tax returns

Legislators in New Jersey passed a bill this week that would require presidential and vice-presidential candidates to disclose their federal tax returns in order to be included on the state’s ballots beginning in 2020. According to the Wall Street Journal, the bill was approved in New Jersey’s Democratic-controlled state legislature by a party-line vote. Governor Chris Christie, an ally of President Trump, must now sign or veto the bill. Christie has not yet released a statement regarding his stance on the legislation.
